That's what cartoons and imagination are. They don't have to be technical. When you think about it, a character like Amethyst shouldn't technically exist in the first place since she's part shark and part beluga whale, and everyone knows they can't mate, right? =P

Besides, I should say that if someone's gonna go swimming in the ocean, the main thing people do to get themselves smoked by a shark is spaz out and start flapping around if they see one o_o
